SAN ANGELO, Texas — The San Angelo Independent School District provided information from Texas Health and Human Services regarding the application for the Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT).

According to an SAISD release, because of COVID-19 closures, Texas officials received approval from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to provide pandemic food benefits to families that temporarily lost access to free or reduced-price school meals.

P-EBT provides eligible families with benefits to buy food from any retailer that accepts the Lone Star Card.

The program is administered by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, Texas Department of Agriculture and the Texas Education Agency.

The P-EBT application opens June 2 and can be submitted through Aug. 31.
