Construction for Lake Nasworthy pier project begins

The City of San Angelo has kicked off the first part of the Lake Nasworthy improvement projects.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Construction for the Lake Nasworthy fishing pier project has officially begun.

Five years ago, the original T-dock structure was closed down because it had deteriorated and was not safe. City of San Angelo Assistant Director of Operations Patrick Frerich said this is the first of the Lake Nasworthy improvement projects.

“We got a lot of feedback that they wanted something like that back, the opportunity came in November of 2019 where we wanted to use some of the lake Nasworthy trust fund principal balance to support some lake improvement projects,” Frerich said.

Frerich explained the trust fund built overtime as the properties around the lake sold and the money went towards the specific fund.

“This pier with contingency and everything is about $823 thousand dollars, which is about where we’ve budgeted with all of the lake Nasworthy improvement projects. We have $6 million allocated in the vote so this is just a small portion of that,” Frerich said.

The City of San Angelo, along with the Lake Nasworthy Homeowners Association, got together to discuss the vision for the project.

“We wanted to really diversify this project, we have an opportunity to make it bigger and to make it better and really open up those opportunities so we wanted to do that,” Frerich said.

Frerich said the City is working together with a contractor that is familiar with this type of projects. The pier is expected to take around seven months to complete.
