SAN ANGELO, Texas — A San Angelo elementary school campus was secured (closed to visitors) Wednesday morning because of heavy law enforcement activity nearby.

According to a press release from the office of Constable Randy Harris, Pct. 4, at approximately 9 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, officers from Tom Green County Constable Offices Precincts 1, 2, 3 and 4 executed a writ of possession after eviction at 1804 Walnut St.

When they entered the home, officers found two people inside the house. A handgun and an item with suspected narcotics were observed in the immediate area where the two individuals were found.

The handgun was reported stolen by the San Angelo Police Department and the item was confirmed to contain methamphetamine.

Tom Green County Sheriff's Office investigators arrived and took control of the criminal investigation. One person was arrested and charged with theft of a firearm and manufacturing and delivery of a controlled substance 4-200 grams.

As a precautionary measure, Stephen F. Austin Elementary School officials were notified and went on lockdown until the scene was secured.

A statement from the San Angelo Independent School District said, "This morning, Austin Elementary secured the building out of an abundance of caution due to increased law enforcement activity in the surrounding neighborhood. Securing the building means that the school will run normal activities, and is closed to outsiders or visitors as a precaution. The safety of our students and staff is our priority. San Angelo ISD appreciates the collaboration with law enforcement."

The person who was arrested was not identified in the release.
