#FitWithFox #AmpedUp — Gender at the Gym

Working out at the gym is not as popular for women as it is for men. A poll conducted by the British Mental Health Charity Mind suggested two out of three women feel self-conscious about their body when working out in public. Our Katie Orth has more on the topic.

Working out at the gym is not as popular for women as it is for men.

A poll conducted by the British Mental Health Charity Mind suggested two out of three women feel self-conscious about their body when working out in public.

“Take three breaths.”

Women who work out — or why they don’t. Local ladies had one common answer.

“It’s intimidating because you have a lot of body-building.”

“I was intimidated by the people working out and what they looked like.”

“More intimidated than men.”

Another popular hold-back?

“Knowledge they don’t know what to do.”

Which can be easily resolved by hiring a coach.

“It’s always better to have someone with you that has the knowledge and can guide you through a workout safely,” Nora Cutrer, a personal trainer at Fitness Untied, said.

The intimidation does not last.

The result when women face their fear and step into a gym…

“I want to be here. I look forward to my workouts.”

A message from a trainer: “Don’t be scared. Work out!”

It can’t hurt.
