TEXAS, USA — Cases of COVID-19 were down for a time, allowing the governor to lift the state's mask mandate, as well as allowing retailers and businesses to ease restrictions.

That no longer remains the case as the state is reporting more positive COVID cases and additional deaths, all while local, state and federal health officials urge Americans to get the COVID-19 vaccine.

In Tom Green County, 71 new positive cases were reported Thursday for a total of 645 active cases and 30 hospitalizations.

Taylor County had not reported its daily positive count, as of 1:25 p.m. Thursday, however the county reported 39 new confirmed positives Wednesday for a total of 396 active cases.

From Sunday-Wednesday this week, the Texas Department of State Health Services reported a total of 20,080 positive cases and 119 COVID-19-related deaths across the state.
