Angelo State announces 2022 Faculty Excellence Awards nominees

All faculty members who have completed at least one full academic year at ASU with satisfactory evaluation are eligible for nomination.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Outstanding Angelo State University faculty members will be honored during the 13th annual Faculty Recognition Ceremony Monday, May 9, in the Houston Harte University Center, 1910 Rosemont Drive.

During the ceremony, ASU President Ronnie Hawkins Jr. will present the 2022 President's Awards for Faculty Excellence in the categories of Excellence in Teaching, Excellence in Research/Creative Endeavor and Excellence in Leadership/Service.

Thirty-six faculty nominees will be recognized with certificates. Five semifinalists in each category will receive a $500 award and a plaque.

The winner in each category will receive $2,500 and a Signature Presidential Recognition Award. The winners in the Excellence in Teaching and Excellence in Research/Creative Endeavor categories will be ASU's nominees for the Texas Tech University System Chancellor's Awards for Excellence in Teaching and Excellence in Research.

This year's nominees in the Excellence in Teaching category are:

  • Laura N. Wilson, assistant clinical professor of physical therapy
  • Allison L. Dushane, associate professor of English
  • Rebekah O. McMillan, assistant professor of history
  • Leah D. Carruth, associate professor of teacher education
  • Kristen N. Lyons, assistant professor of curriculum and instruction
  • Charles C. Allen, professor of physics
  • Dionne T. Bailey, professor of mathematics
  • Mohammad S. Haque, assistant professor of mechanical engineering
  • Larrimore W. Hettick II, instructor in management
  • Landri L. Ognowski, instructor in accounting
  • Michael J. Conklin, assistant professor of business law
  • Gayle L. Randall, senior instructor in management and marketing

Nominated in the Excellence in Research/Creative Endeavor category are:

  • Heather J. Braden, professor of physical therapy
  • Drew A. Curtis, associate professor of psychology
  • Bruce E. Bechtol Jr., professor of political science
  • Robert M. Briwa, assistant professor of geography
  • Linda A. Kornasky, professor of English
  • Donna B. Gee, professor of teacher education
  • Kenneth W. Carrell, assistant professor of physics
  • Simon D. Pfeil, assistant professor of mathematics
  • Aldo R. Pinon-Villarreal, assistant professor of civil engineering
  • Michael J. Conklin, assistant professor of business law
  • Juehui Shi, assistant professor of management

Nominees in the Excellence in Leadership/Service category are:

  • Rozena D. McCabe, associate professor of kinesiology
  • James F. Villers, associate clinical professor of physical therapy
  • David A. Faught, professor of Spanish
  • Eduardo V. Martinez, senior instructor in intelligence and analysis
  • Michael S. Powers, assistant professor of history
  • Carlos A. Flores, associate professor of teacher education
  • Regina H. Shipley, assistant professor of curriculum and instruction
  • Eddie F. Holik III, associate professor of physics
  • Michael C. Holcomb, assistant professor of physics
  • Travis W. Humphrey, instructor in mathematics
  • William A. Kitch, professor of civil engineering
  • Ruben Ceballos, assistant professor of management
  • Biqing Huang, professor of finance

The purpose of the President's Awards for Faculty Excellence is to recognize outstanding faculty nominated by their peers for excellence in faculty performance. The awards are sponsored by the ASU Faculty Senate and are presented annually at the end of each spring semester.

All faculty members who have completed at least one full academic year at ASU with satisfactory evaluation are eligible for nomination.
