CISCO, Texas — The Cisco Police Department reported Tuesday morning it had located the body of a missing 79-year-old man.

Samuel Ray Woody was last seen May 14, 2021, leaving a tire shop. His body was found May 17, on a ranch in Shackleford County.

A social media post from the department said, "It is with heavy hearts to  report that Mr. Woody was located on May 17, 2021 and is deceased. His family and the Cisco Police Department thank each of you for your prayers and tips."

According to the CPD, multiple agencies began searching for the man after Woody's vehicle was found stuck in a low-water crossing.

At approximately 6:15 p.m. Monday, Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter pilots found him approximately three miles from his car in a remote area of the ranch. Reports indicate Woody's vehicle had been there since Friday, May 14, 2021.

The Shackleford County Sheriff's Office is in charge of the death investigation. There are no apparent signs of foul play, CPD said, but an autopsy has been ordered to determine cause of death.

Woody was a long-time resident of Cisco.

The Cisco PD thanked the Albany Volunteer Fire Department, the Red Cross, Shackleford County Sheriff's Office, Callahan County Sheriff's Office, Texas Department  of Public Safety troopers and pilots, Texas Parks and Wildlife game wardens, the Albany Police Department and ranch employees for their help in the recovery of the missing man.
