What better way to start off 2018 than to spend it outdoors with your family? That's exactly what the staff and friends of the San Angelo State Park thought when they created this event.
The First Day Hike will start at 10 am on New Year's Day. There will be two hikes lead by park staff. They'll answer questions and point out interesting views and facts along the way. One hike will be half a mile long, the other, three miles long.
According to nutristrategy.com, a person weighing around 150 pounds can burn anywhere from 300 to 500 calories on a one hour hike. If you'd like to burn even more calories, you can do that by pushing a stroller, carrying a backpack with supplies, or simply playing with your children after the hike.
This is a free event so just show up at the South Shore entrance of the State Park just off of FM 2288 and the trails are stroller friendly.
Remember, it will be cold that day so make sure to bundle up and wear shoes that are good for hiking.
