San Angelo women police officers share their stories of working in law enforcement

Four San Angelo Police Department officers shared their experience working behind the badge during Women’s History Month.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Four San Angelo women police officers shared their experience working in law enforcement in San Angelo.

Crime Scene Supervisor Robin Hooper, Patrol Officer Anna Harding, Detective Alyssa Asebedo and Detective Porsche Callum all came from different parts of life but ended up in the Concho Valley to protect and serve the community.

Whether it’s administrative, detective, or patrolling positions, women in the department work together and support each other whenever it’s needed.

“At the end of the day, we made it home together. We made it through that call. We're here. Let's talk about it. Analyze. I think we all analyze how we could have done it better or next time we should try this. But you gotta want it no matter what," Officer Harding explained.

Policing is a male-dominated profession, with over 12% of all United States sworn police officers being women.

Because the job is dangerous and has taken countless lives across the country, these women have to ensure their families that they put their lives on the line everyday to protect others.

"You do have to come to reality that you may not make it home. That may be your last time because this is what happens all the time. We still have a line of duty. When you fill out that format, I promise you it gets real,” Callum shared.

In spite of the rough times they may face, they said bringing closure to families and loved ones makes it all worth it.

“I love that part. I like it when if it's an aggravated sexual assault or something like that.  I'm going to get the evidence and we're going to make it work so we can come to a conclusion"

All four women say the support from the San Angelo community is what helps them push through. They always encourage young women to go after their dreams and work for what they want like they did.
