SAPD: Vehicle crash into Concho River results in death of driver

San Angelo Police said there was only one vehicle involved in the crash. The driver, a 19-year-old San Angelo man died in the crash.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — A San Angelo man died Monday night after the vehicle he was driving went into the Concho River.

According to a San Angelo Police Department release, at approximately 10:23 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a call about a vehicle crash on Veterans Memorial Drive.

When they arrived at the scene, officers found a car had left the roadway and was submerged in the Concho River. Officers on scene went into the river to try to rescue the driver, but were unable to reach him.

The San Angelo Fire Department arrived at the scene and helped remove the driver/sole occupant from the car and transported him to Shannon Medical Center. The driver was pronounced dead at Shannon Tuesday morning.

SAPD’s Motors and Criminal Investigations divisions were requested on scene to help with the investigation, which concluded it was a single-vehicle crash with no other vehicle/persons were involved.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Paytum Morgan, 19, of San Angelo.
