UPDATE: DPS identifies motorcyclist who died after crash while fleeing from troopers

DPS troopers tried to make a traffic stop Sunday and the motorcycle driver fled from them, driving at speeds more than 100 mph.

TAYLOR COUNTY, Texas — UPDATE (4:45 p.m. Sept. 6): The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the man who died Sunday when he crashed his motorcycle while fleeing a traffic stop.

DPS said the man who died was Robert James Samuel, 38, of Abilene. 

ORIGINAL STORY: A motorcycle rider died after running from Texas Department of Public Safety troopers Sunday in Taylor County.

According to DPS, troopers tried to stop the rider after a traffic violation, but the rider sped off on FM 1750. DPS said the motorcyclist was traveling at speeds of more than 100 mph on Oldham Lane, when he lost control on a curve and overturned. 

The motorcyclist died at the scene of the crash.
