According to TxDOT about every 20 minutes in Texas, someone is hurt or killed in a crash involving alcohol.

With the celebrations for the new year right around the corner remember it is against the law to drink and drive.

A simple fix to keep you out of trouble is to plan.

Get a designated driver a cab or ride-sharing service.

And keep in mind, the alcohol needs to be out of your system before you get behind the wheel the *next* day too.

SSgt. Justin Baker says, "The next morning, you get up, don't just think 'well I slept for a few hours so I'm going to be okay to go.' You've got to have enough time for that alcohol to get out of your system to the point where you're under the legal limit."

As a last resort AAA will offer one free tow of up to 10 miles for anyone too impaired to drive.

The service will be available statewide from 6 p.m. on Sunday to 6 a.m. on Monday January first.
