Pursuit by Tom Green County Sheriff's Office leads to one arrest

The passenger of the vehicle was arrested, however, the driver has not been found.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — A man was arrested by Tom Green County Sheriff's deputies following a pursuit Thursday afternoon. 

According to a TGCSO release, at approximately 2:23 p.m. a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the 3000 block of North Bryant Boulevard. 

The driver of the vehicle accelerated and fled the stop, as the deputy approached the vehicle.

During the pursuit, the driver temporarily stopped in the 3700 block of North Bryant Boulevard and a front passenger exited and fled on foot.

After the passenger fled, the driver continued to evade marked vehicles. The pursuit ended shortly after. The suspect's vehicle was found in the 2600 block of Jomar Street.

Investigators used a canine and foot search but did not locate the driver. 

An investigation is currently in progress at the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office, according to the release.

According to TGCSO, there is no known threat to public safety at the time.

The passenger was arrested by assisting units and identified as, Guadalupe Vargas, 35. Vargas was arrested for outstanding warrants for possession of a controlled substance, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and a number of City of San Angelo warrants.

The San Angelo Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety and the Department of Homeland Security assisted the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office.
