Kids in the Concho Valley saddled up for a special ride today. Both Sonrisas Trails and Stone Arbor Farm teaming up to provide children of all ages with a cowboy Christmas at the Spur Arena. The two organizations offering horseback and hay rides for free.

"We've been trying to target those families who are maybe financially strapped this time of year and they want to give their kids a true memory, a true afternoon of enjoyment," said Tim C. Smith, owner of Stone Arbor Farm.

This is the third year Stone Arbor Farm hosts the event and Smith says it's grown in popularity since it first began.

“First year we gave 375 rides, then we realized this was going to get bigger than we could handle by ourselves so I contacted Sonrisas," said Smith.

Sonrisas trails provides therapeutic horseback rides for children, adults, and military veterans throughout the year.

“The community has been so good to us; the Concho valley, people of San Angelo, the surrounding counties. This is our way of giving back to the community that has been so good to us,” said Mary Coffey, the public relations director for Sonrisas Trails.

All the animals today were provided by private owners and members of the Concho community. One parent shared how having multiple children can often make it difficult to provide expensive gifts for everyone. And events like this helps give them a much merrier Christmas.

“When you have kids saying mom I want to do this or that it's not that I don't want to its that I cant. When things like this come across, look children momma cant but now I can,” said Sarah Andrade.

Donated toy horses were given to most children attending today. Smith says he plans on hosting the event again next year.
