Starting January 1st, 2018 its going to cost you an extra $65 to turn on City water at a new house.

The San Angelo City Council recently approved a deposit increase from $35 to $100.

According to the City, the reason why is because the Water Department was losing money for unpaid bills.

Over the past four years, the City has sent 1,500 delinquent accounts to the collection agency totaling $470.

“The reason why we are doing that is because of all the collection accounts, $35 isn't enough to cover the cost around that,” a representative from the City’s Water Department said.

The City says, the increase in the deposit fee will not generate any additional revenue for the Water Department.
