SAN ANGELO, Texas — On Sunday, the Angelo State University women's soccer team hosted a winter clinic, which provided high school recruits a training experience to learn more about soccer at the collegiate level.

Many recruits were in attendance including a few who have already committed to ASU. During the clinic, recruits went over drills and participated in small games with the ASU players.

Travis McCorkle, head coach, said hosting the clinic allows his players to provide mentorship to the high school recruits.

"At the clinic, the girls use their ability to talk to the recruits and tell them about what to expect on campus, what the schedule is like, and what the games are like. Also, they talk about the city because many people don't know what San Angelo is like so anything that helps them know what they could do here while getting an education and playing soccer is great," McCorkle said.

Mia Czarnecki, junior center midfielder for the Belles, believes this clinic not only helps recruits but also serves as a way for the team to get some practice in before the season.

"It's good to get some touches on the ball against some good competition, especially coming after the month-long break. It's good to see some of my teammates and also some of the girls that have already committed so that we can see how we will play together," Czarnecki said.

The Belles had a stellar season last year, winning 16 games and advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. With their newly-skilled recruits, the Belles will look forward to another successful run.

During the offseason, Czarnecki says there is only one common goal for her and her teammates.

"We're more strength-based in the spring so I want to get a lot stronger and build more muscle mass," Czarnecki said.
