Joseph Rowe, a senior point guard/shooting guard has allowed his love for the game to transition over to coaching.

After learning and playing the game of basketball for most of your life, the only thing left to do is teach others. Joseph Rowe, a senior point guard and shooting guard at San Angelo Central is doing just that after finishing his high school career.

The South Side Recreation Center is where freshmen from San Angelo Central gather to play scrimmage games, allowing them to continue perfecting their skills during the offseason.

Rowe who is currently 2-0 in his coaching debut season and says he’s enjoying every moment.

"After that last game when we lost, you know over the summertime I wanted to find a way to stay in the game and this was the most fun route for me to take. This is just fun I really like coaching," Rowe said.

Freshman point guard Jordan Sellers says learning from his older teammate has pushed him to become better.

"It's been more fun playing with him. He keeps the energy up while teaching us more of what they expect us to do at Central like defensive wise and getting out on the ball," Sellers said.

This season Rowe helped the Bobcats finish with an overall record of 21-11 and fourth in the district. After graduation, Rowe will take his athletic ability to the next level at the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis.

Although Rowe is excited to play at the next level, he says his main goal is to remain focused.

"I was happy for a couple of seconds, but my overall mindset was just to get back to work and just keep getting better," Rowe said.

While coaching the freshmen at Central, Rowe continues to encourage his team that hard work pays off and if you stay focused things will work in your favor.
