    The Coke County detention center in Bronte was originally constructed in 1984 and opened the next year to house about 100 female inmates. Soon after it was expanded for an additional 100 inmates and turned into an all male facility. The center closed in 2007 and while there are rumors as to why it did but coke county judge Roy Blair says it came down to a switch in procedures. Instead of using private facilities like the one in Bronte the inmates now had to be housed in a state run facility. ...

    Thousands were without power this afternoon after an accident on south Jackson streeta powerline was hit by a truck driver near the Grove Apartments. Around 3:30 this afternoon a truck driver was trying to make a turn in a gated area in a parking lot. His truck hit the powerline and caused the tower to break and catch on fire. Around eight-thousand people were without power for at least two hours. KIDY spoke with AEP who says all power was restored by 6 p.m.
