Attention, grads: the secret to landing your dream job could take place before your interview even begins!
Candidates how preform background checks on themselves can gain key insights into what a prospective employer may see.
Millennial career expert Jill Jacinto said to look up your credit score before a job interview.
“You need to have an idea of what these companies are going to find about you because they will do these types of checks in one form or another,” Jacinto said.
Have you Goggled yourself lately? Take a look at what’s popping up before you meet any prospective employers.
“Is there a photo that your friend recently posted that doesn’t show you in the best light? Maybe a blog comment is coming up that doesn’t really speak to what you believe now? So, you wanna make sure you’re ahead of that.”
How you present yourself online isn’t just about deleting potential job-killing tweets. It’s also about adding content to highlight your skills and experience.
“Put more information about yourself out there, so that that’s the newer results that people are gonna find and everything else is on the tenth page of Google.”
Once you’ve landed a job, there’s one thing Fortune 500 executive advisor and author of The CEO of You Andrew Wittman said you must bring with you:
“Come in with an entrepreneurial mindset instead of an employee mindset. So, you want to come in and you want to play to win,” Wittman said.
Wittman said you may be working for someone else, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t think like a tycoon.
“I always call it ‘being an American and not an Ameri-can’t.’ So, I have a can-do attitude instead of coming up with all the reasons why we can’t do something. And if you literally have that mindset in an interview, people will be like, ‘Oh my gosh, we got to hire this person right now.’”
The job market for recent college grads is looking up. A new survey shows employers expect to hire five percent more new college graduates from the Class of 2017 than they hired last year.
