SAN ANGELO, TX - The competition is heating up at the International Barbecue Cookers Association cook-off on the Fort Concho Grounds.
The event is one of many in the 2017 Chevrolet All American Chevrolet River Fest taking place Sept. 16.
The cook-off features more than 100 teams competing for a share in the $50,000 grand prize.
Cooks must present three BBQ meats to qualify for Grand Champion.
They must cook: chicken, pork spare ribs and brisket.
Teams like Black Mama BBQ came across Texas to compete.
"Our focus is straight up practical," Shawn Decuir, cook, said. "What we look for is number one, we have to keep the wives happy," he said, referring to keeping the cooking area clean. "It's got to be cleanable, not messing anything up so we kind of keep it as as simple as we possibly can."
All the cooks competing against each other and against the man known as the "Godfather of BBQ" Celebrity Chef Johnny Trigg.
"Some of the best cooks in Texas right here," Trigg said.
"Trigg said he's up for the challenge and the prize money.
"It's going to be a tough one right here," Trigg said. "There's gonna be a lot of happy people, a few happy people, and a lot of unhappy people because they're not going to get any of the money."
