Beat the Heat While Exercising Outdoors this Summer

Tips on how to beat the summer heat while exercising outdoors.

SAN ANGELO, TX - The summer heat in West Texas may be dangerous for some.

More than 600 people in the United States are killed by extreme heat every year, according to the Center for Disease Control.

However the fact still remains you'll still find a few beating the heat and exercising outdoors in 90 degree weather.

Personal trainer Kristi Smith has a few tips for those running, jogging or taking party in outdoor activity in the summer.

"It's important to hydrate two hours before working out and then if you're working out over 45 minutes you need to make sure you take some hydration breaks and continue to hydrate," Smith said.

Out of all the beverage options to stay hydrated Smith recommends water as the go to source.

"Unless you're working out for over 45 minutes, 60 minutes, typically water should suffice," she said.

If possible, bring along a friend if you're running or working out in the heat.

"I think it's important to workout with a buddy, so someone can notice if you're getting confused, if you're tired, keeping each other in check and making sure you're safe," she said.
