SAN ANGELO, TX - President and CEO Dan Koenig is resigning early September to accept a similar position with the Council Bluffs, Iowa Area Chamber of Commerce, according to the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce.

Koenig started his journey at the San Angelo Chamber in August of 2016 after the sudden death of long-time Chamber President Phil Neighbors in February 2016.

Koenig said this new opportunity was something he couldn't pass up.

“The position feels like the right fit for my experience, background and passion for community development." Koenig added, "It’s also a rare chance to practice the work I love, in a city I’m familiar with and be closer to family, since both my wife and I grew up in neighboring Omaha and have family in the area.”

Council Bluffs sits on the Iowa side of the Missouri River just across from Omaha, Nebraska. The combined population of the Omaha Metro statistical area is about 950,000. Koenig will be joining a team of approximately 800 members at the Council Bluffs Chamber.

Koenig has history with the Council Bluffs Area Chamber as he served as vice president from 1989 to 1993. He also worked for the Council Bluffs daily newspaper from 1983 to 1989.

Chamber Board of Directors Chair Chuck Shore said, “Dan’s done a great job for Chamber, added a lot of value and we are disappointed to see him go. But at the same time, I’m very happy for Dan and his family knowing he gets the opportunity to be closer to family and do the work he loves.”

Koenig said he's very thankful for the opportunity to serve the San Angelo Chamber.

“San Angelo is a beautiful community and the leadership here is great to work with and we will miss the many wonderful relationships we’ve been fortunate to establish,” Koenig said.

Shore said the Chamber’s board will be meeting this week to begin discussing the process to secure a new president and he anticipates a search committee will soon to begin discussing the process to secure a new president.
