Drowsy drivers causes 8x the crashes estimated

Texas driver safety

SAN ANGELO, TX - Drowsy or sleepy drivers cause nearly 1 in 10 crashes in the US according to a new study by AAA.

Drowsy drivers account for nearly 8 times as many accidents that were originally federally estimated.

In Texas the numbers are increasing.
Texas department of transportation reported an increase in fatal crashes involving drivers who were tired or fell asleep.
In cities, crashes increased by 10.5%, and in rural areas the State saw a 1.4% increase.
According to AAA the difficulty in detecting a drowsy driver after an accident is the reason it is one of the most under-reported traffic safety issues.
