Federal health officials report nearly 10 million American adults have a serious mental illness.

Federal health officials report nearly 10 million American adults have a serious mental illness – and a similar number have considered suicide during the past year.

The annual Behavioral Health Barometer shows nearly 16 million Americans abused alcohol and nearly eight million abused illicit drugs in 2015.

But there is a bright side! The report also found fewer teens are smoking cigarettes and fewer started using alcohol, marijuana or other drugs in 2015 than in previous years.
