Sun Exposure Can Be Harmful to Your Eyes

Aside from your skin, there is another area you should protect from the sun: your eyes.

Summer is almost here! Aside from taking care of your skin, there is another area you should protect: your eyes.

Experts say up to 10 percent of all skin cancers are found in the eyelids.

In Texas, the biggest complications with the sun are UV rays, which can cause cataracts. The World Organization reports approximately 900,000 people are blind due to cataracts.

“But [it’s] really important to know that outdoors -- 15 minutes of exposure to UV and blue light outdoors equals eight hours in front of a computer,” optometrist Doctor Warren Brascher said.

Protecting the eyes from UV and blue light exposure is best done with brown-tinted sunglasses.
