SAN ANGELO, TX - The San Angelo Independent School District has received 10 students displaced by the recent hurricanes.
"As you can imagine it's extremely traumatic in all ways, they lost everything they had with them from before, coming into a new place a new school system," Derrick Jackson, San Angelo ISD's public information officer, said.
The district has five students from Hurricane Irma and five from Hurricane Harvey.
"We just want to make them have a stable of an environment, a learning environment, just an overall environment, culture, that we can so we're very sensitive to that when they first enroll," he said.
Jackson says the district's main focus, as they receive displaced students, is getting them comfortable and adjusted as soon as possible.
"A lot of [diagnosis] type stuff that we go through to know exactly where the student belongs and needs to be so we can help, again, with that process of getting them acclimated quickly as possible to a new environment," Jackson said.
