SAN ANGELO, TX - February is American Heart month. What better way to raise awareness than cute babies.
The little hats, big hearts campaign began with one woman right here in San Angelo.
She knitted hats for a few babies born in the month of February.
The goal, raise awareness for children born with heart disease.
Now in its third year more people are involved and over $5,000 hats will be handed out to folks in 20 cities across West Texas.
"One in 100 children will be born with congenital heart disease in the United States. Still the leading cause of death and disability in the United States for children."
Decades ago the survival rate for kids with heart disease was around 20%.
Now it's over 90%.
