Residents sign petition to remove former Dallas mayor, KKK member's name off freeway

R.L. Thornton, Dallas's mayor in the 1950s, has his name on a freeway, the Texas State Fair and an elementary school. But Dallas residence are circulating a petition to get his name removed due to his involvement in the KKK.

DALLAS, TX - Some Texans are pushing to rename a Dallas freeway which was named after a former mayor who was also a Ku Klux Klan member. A petition is circulating around to get his name down. 

R. L. Thornton who served as mayor in Dallas, back in the 1950s he was a banker and businessman who played an important role in the Texas State Fair. A statue of him still stands at Fair Park, and there's even an elementary school named after him.
