SAN ANGELO, TX - In honor of Halloween, San Angelo Fire Department and Tom Green County Sheriff's Department held safe trick-or-treating events for children and adults to enjoy.
"During Halloween, we try to encourage people to come to a safe environment versus going door to door, " Lieutenant Keith Muncey, Tom Green County Sheriff's Office said. "It's always best to come to a place well known."
Officers opened up police cars to hand out candy and meet some of the community. They even turned on the flashing lights to simulate what it looks like when they are turned on.
The event also had free hot dogs, as well as a haunted house for all of the attendees to enjoy.
"It's a great way to give back and connect with the community," Lt. Muncey said.
Over at the San Angelo Fire Department, they held their annual "Fire Truck or Treat." The event is put on in partnership with the San Angelo Firefighters Association. All eight of the fire stations handed out treats, and let gave tours of the fire trucks and ambulances.
Susan Neely, a San Angelo resident, comes every year because the event is more than just a way to get free candy.
"Of course they get to see the fire trucks which they love, " Neely said. "We come out here because we know it's safe and fun at the same time."
This was the third year the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office has held the event. As for "Fire Trunk or Treat," the event celebrated its 15th anniversary this year.
