State of the Chamber of Commerce

SAN ANGELO, TX - New jobs to West Texas that don't just pay minimum wage that's what the city council heard Tuesday morning. Our Senora Scott has the story.

"We're in Texas, the fastest growing economy in the United States,” Michael Looney said.

Michael looney with the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce is talking about San Angelo and the uptick they've seen in the local economy.

“It's certainly not just all oil related,” Looney said.

Although the number of active rigs this year versus last year speaks for themselves. Now, the Chamber’s focused on a major push to get businesses and industries to set up shop in the city.

"We've been focusing on industrial sectors that are complimented by the commercial strengths of San Angelo. These sectors include medical manufacturing, trucking logistics, heavy industry manufacturing, and food production,” Looney said.

Looney says five manufacturers are interested - three have toured San Angelo and one has committed to make the move. Mayor Brenda Gunter was extremely supportive.

"Economic development is one of the most important things we can do in the City so I ask that you enlist the support of anyone up here,” Gunter said.

Other buildings up for grabs are listed here as well as sites in industrial park. In the meantime, when San Angelo sees new business is the question.
