Grammy-winning country singer Trisha Yearwood is also known for her cooking skills. She has three best-selling cookbooks and the tenth season of her Food Network show, Southern Kitchen, airs late this summer.
Yearwood says it all started years ago when she was asked to write a memoir, which she didn’t want to do.
“I said, ‘Well, I like to cook.’ It really was that…and I left that meeting, and I had volunteered my mom and my sister to write a book, so I kind-of accidentally eased into this space. But it’s something that feels comfortable because it’s something that I enjoy.”
As she introduced a food line at Williams-Sonoma, Yearwood spoke about how she wants items with her name attached to be authentic.
“With the food, I want you to make these biscuits and I want them to taste like they would if I made them from scratch because I don’t want it to be a misrepresentation of what I actually do.”
And her cookbooks do serve as inspiration on the road.
“We do have caterers who cook out of the books at my husband’s request, and so they get pretty close. They do a really good job. And so, it’s kinda nice, you get to go in and eat your own food and you didn’t have to cook it, you don’t have to clean up the dishes.”
Yearwood and her husband, Garth Brooks, are currently wrapping a successful three-year world tour. She shared a big takeaway from the experience.
“Just a real gratitude, you know. I mean, I got to tour with Garth in the nineties when, if you were making country music records in the nineties, you were selling records. It was a real heyday for country music, and everybody did well. And then he retired, I moved to Oklahoma to be with him, so I cut my touring dates way back. Usually, if you slow down or stop at all, you don’t get a chance to go back and the fact that we’ve had a chance to do this and on such a large scale -- it’s the biggest tour in the country – there’s a lot of gratitude.”
As for new music, she’s working on both a solo album and another duets record with Brooks.
“I’m working on two different projects. One is a regular album, one is a specialty album, but we want to do another duets album as well. The Christmas album was a great way for us to kind-of do that duet album that we’ve been promising forever, but it was Christmas album and it was so much fun and we’d like to do a full-on duet album.”
