Abilene, TX -- A man died from a suspicious head injury at Hendrick Hospital at 4:38 AM on Wednesday, March 12, 2014, according to Administrative Sergeant Lynn Beard of the Abilene Police Department.
Matthew Augustatd, 41, was transported to Hendrick Hospital at 5:40 PM on March 11, 2014 after his mother found him in medical distress at his home on the 3100 block of South 23rd Street.
"The circumstances surrounding how he received that trauma to the head is what we're investigating," said St. Beard. "At this stage, anything is still possible. This can be anything from an accident to something more serious."
The nature of the injuries is unknown and police were notified of the trauma to the head at 1:50 AM on March 12. CID was notified at 2:20 AM.
Augustatd was transported to Tarrant County for the autopsy, which revealed two scull fractures, one fatal. There was no external injury to determine how he received that trauma.
Augustatd's mother said she arrived at the home at 8 or 9 PM on March 10 and saw her son with a white female in her 30s and a white male in his 30s or 40s. She did not know them and did not meet them.
Later that night, she heard what was described as a thump. She found him laying on the living room floor. She helped him back into bed and heard another fall later. She called 9-1-1 at 5:40 PM on March 11.
Police are asking for help identifying the white male and white female. They may be driving a truck. There is no other description at this time.
