City Council Has A Whole New Face Starting Tomorrow

City Council Has A Whole New Face Starting Tomorrow

Posted: Updated:
Tomorrow will be the first city council meeting since the city elections. A new council will make a decision on a couple of returning agenda items.

Last council meeting, the water utilities staff asked for the okay to pay $190,000 to study alternatives for reclamation water. The item was tabled due to the item's price tag but will be revisited tomorrow. The council will also get an update on the Red Arroyo study--it's a study that could provide us with 5,000 acre-feet per year. In March the Water Utilities Department was stern on returning with more research at a later date. And now that time has come.

Prior to those agenda pieces, three city council members will be sworn in at the start of the meeting. For Elizabeth Grindstaff, it'll be her first time ever. Rodney Fleming and Johnny Silvas have been through it before. All three will officially take position for the next two years as city council members tomorrow. But how does someone who hasn’t been in the discussion of these continued agenda items jump right in?

“I have some limitation to the information that I’m presented prior to being sworn in so I’m a little bit behind the curve," Liz said.

It might take some time to adjust to the council seat but Grindstaff said her previous work experience will help her adapt.

“Some of these projects have actually been in the works for several years and date back to the time that I was at the city. So I don’t promise to be the most educated person on the council tomorrow morning by any means, but I’m probably starting off better than most would,” she explained.

After working as the Assistant City Manager for San Angelo, it’s Texas Pacifico that serves as Liz’ full-time job.

“This is what I do this is what pays the bills and supports my family and so at night I’ll be doing a lot of reading," Grindstaff stated.

Her homework starts tonight, and she’s confident she’ll get the ball rolling quickly.

“I think tomorrow will start out rather nervous for me and then hopefully I will get comfortable and then I will serve in the position that I’ve been elected to serve in.”

We'll have complete coverage of tomorrow's city council meeting tomorrow night on FOX KIDY at 9:30 p.m.
