San Angelo- TX A type of event that hasn't been held in San Angelo since 2000 charged it's way into the First Community Credit Union Spur arena Saturday night.

This freestyle bullfighting event is attracting spectators from out of state and champions from around the country.KIDY reporter Senora Scott spoke with reining World Champion freestyle bullfighter Weston Rutkowski who explains the event.

"It's the Bulls of the West event, it's a nine man invitational bull fight put on by Triple J. This is the only event where it's the who's who. We've never been put together in this kind of pen. It's always been kinda scattered out. Everybody is really good at what they do, but there's all different types of styles. When it comes down to it, it's kind of our way of saying I'm the best. It's a competition between me and the bull. It's a 70 second match, it's a shotgun shoot which is where you pull the gate right open and the bull comes straight out. As soon as they pull that gate open, it's game on."

It's scored like bull riding, you get 50 points for the bull, 50 points for your fight, and the more the bull fights the more you keep him in contact, in close proximity to you the higher your score will be. These are freestyle bullfighting bulls, these aren't bucking bulls, these are bulls that are bred to fight. All these bulls hit the ground, angry at the world, we don't make them mad, they're born that way.

On Saturday night the rivalry between man and beast begins, with both looking for a fight.
