AUSTIN - An 11-year-old boy from Austin is schooling security experts on how toys can be used as spy devices and weapons.
Reuben Paul has become an international expert in cybersecurity, demonstrating how smart toys can be transformed into household spies.
The sixth grader started his summer by giving a demonstration at a cybersecurity conference in the Netherlands.
He says turning off the Bluetooth or the power on the device should stop hackers from getting into your machine.
“Today, I’m going to hack an internet-connected toy bear…closing open ports. Turning off Bluetooth when you don’t really use it,” Paul said. “Just turn off the bear when you’re not using it.”
Paul hopes to head to MIT or CalTech for college and use his skills to stop foreign cybersecurity experts.
