Angelo State University Symphony Orchestra set to open 2021-2022 season this weekend

The first half of the concert will feature the student winners of the 2021 ASU Concerto Competition.

The Angelo State University Symphony Orchestra will open its 2021-22 season with a public concert at 4 p.m. Sunday at Murphey Performance Hall, 72 W. College Ave.

"Concerto Extraordinaire," the concert is free and open to the public. 

The first half of the concert will feature the student winners of the 2021 ASU Concerto Competition, Lucas Moralez of San Angelo and Jose Gonzales of Lyons.

The full concert program includes:

  • "La Clemenza di Tito Overture" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
  • "Viola Concerto in C Major" by Johann Baptist Vanhal, featuring Moralez on viola
  • "Russian Marimba Concerto" by Sergei Golovko, featuring Gonzales on marimba
  • "Ballet Music" from "Faust" by Charles Gounod

The ASU Symphony Orchestra includes more than 40 student musicians and is directed by Dr. Fagner Magrinelli Rocha, assistant professor of music.
