SAN ANGELO, Texas — The Concho Christmas Celebration is celebrating 26 years of welcoming visitors to the Concho Valley with the Tour of Lights along the Concho River.
The 2019 Concho Christmas Celebration River Light Tour soft opening date is Friday, Dec. 6, with the tour running every night through Monday, Dec. 31. The tour will be open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. weeknights; and from 6 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.
There is a suggested $5 cash donation at the beginning of the tour. Families are invited to walk, run, bike or drive through the tour.
A release from Concho Christmas Celebration said, "The Tour of Lights has blossomed from a simple walking tour to a multi-mile journey along the Concho River, featuring more than three million lights and more than seventy-five life-size Christmas Greeting Cards. With this year’s new dazzling light scene “The Concho Christmas Celebration Train,” and other new additions along the way, the tour is bigger and brighter than ever and sure to thrill young and old alike."
On Saturday, Dec. 7,the annual Community Tree Lighting Ceremony, featuring the Twin Mountain Tonesmen and the San Angelo Community Band will take place at the corner of Concho Avenue and Chadbourne Street. The ceremony will begin at 5 p.m. with prelude music.
The Lights of Christmas Parade will start at 6 p.m. Saturday. The parade begins at the Shannon employee parking lot on North Oakes Street and will travel through the downtown area down Chadbourne, Concho and Oakes streets.
Other activities planned for the Concho Christmas Celebration include “Bike Through the Lights,” a bicycle riding tour with Santa and Mrs. Claus and Elf John Sunday, Dec. 8; “Run Rudolph Run,” a non-competitive fun run Sunday, Dec. 15; “Tuba Christmas” at noon Saturday, Dec. 21, at the San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts, 1 Love St.; and "Kayak Through the Lights,” an evening paddle along the Concho River Saturday, Dec. 14.
