Oh boy! "BUDDY: The Buddy Holly Story" set to make Abilene premiere in September

ABILENE, Texas — "BUDDY: The Buddy Holly Story" will kick off the Abilene Broadway series next month with a stop at Abilene Convention Center. 

According to an Abilene Cultural Affairs Council press release, the musical, which first premiered in London in 1989, "tells the enduring tale of the musical icon’s meteoric rise to fame and his final legendary performance at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa, before his tragic and untimely death at the age of 22."

The show will take place at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 21 at Abilene Convention Center. Tickets are on sale now by phone at 800-869-1415 or online at celebrityattractions.com.

Other shows in the Broadway series expected to make a stop in Abilene in the coming months include "An Officer and a Gentleman: The Musical," Rodgers and Hammerstein's "South Pacific," "Waitress," and "BEAUTIFUL: The Carole King Musical."
