San Angelo Elks host CASI-sanctioned chili cook-off to benefit children with special needs

SAN ANGELO, Texas — For those planning to compete at the International Championship Chili Cook Off in Terlingua, the San Angelo Elks Lodge is giving an opportunity to earn points.

San Angelo Elks Lodge 1880 is holding its annual Elks Chili Cook-off Saturday, June 20. All proceeds will help fund the summer camp for special needs children in Ottine, Texas, sponsored by the Texas State Elks Association.

Registration starts at 9 a.m. June 20, at the lodge, 2121 S Chadbourne St.

The cost is $18 for chili and $5 for beans. Beans will be judged at noon, and may be cooked off site. Chili must be cooked on site and must be made from chili grind meat. Modified CASI rules apply, with COVID-19 modifications. Chili will be judged at 2 p.m.

The lodge will be holding a raffle immediately following the award ceremony. Elks members are requesting new items to be donated for the auction.

Hamburgers will be available for $3 each, starting at 11 a.m. for the chili teams and lodge members.
