Donors top previous year's gifts to San Angelo Gives, despite the unusual circumstances

More than 10,000 donors contributed to the more than $2.6 million made for this year's event.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The San Angelo Area Foundation hosted its sixth annual San Angelo Gives event.

In past years, organizations usually hold events across the Concho Valley to celebrate the day. Despite restrictions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, donors still gave online.

“San Angelo gives is about uniting our community and one day to give as one," Janet Karcher, SAAF vice president of development and marketing, said.

“We had an outstanding response from the community and raised over $2.6 million for organizations across the Concho Valley," Karcher said.

Back in 2019, the foundation raised a little more than $2.2 million. In early December 2019, and this January, this year’s goal was set.

“We hit our stretch goal of 2.5 and overall raised an outstanding 2.6," Karcher said.

In the last five years, Karcher said the foundation has racked up more than $7 million for local and area non-profits. San Angelo Gives also had more than 10,000 donations.

“We had 190 participating organizations across the Concho Valley, which was the largest number we had over the last six years" Karcher said.

The organizations helped by San Angelo Gives span from health and human services, to animal welfare, youth, and community development and improvement - just to name a few.

“With everything going on, we’re just truly amazed that our community is so generous and so loving and wanting to support the causes they’re passionate about," Karcher said.

Individual donations, coupled with the larger ones are what made a huge impact, for Wednesday's event.
