The YMCA of San Angelo announced Tuesday that it will act as the host of the 30th annual Children’s Fair.

The Children’s Fair, created by Healthy Families of San Angelo in 1990, has been held on the fourth Sunday in April annually, and served as a fundraising event for the local non-profit.

With the recent closing of Healthy Families San Angelo, the event was at risk of ending. The event not only served as a fundraiser for Healthy Families of San Angelo, but also gave participating organizations the opportunity to earn funds for their children-based projects by retaining a portion of the gross profits earned.

The event hosted on average - 100 food, game, activity booths and entertainment - each run by non-profit groups and/or organizations.

“At the Y strengthening community is our cause. We feel like it is our social responsibility to continue to give San Angelo organizations the opportunity to raise funds for their own cause while giving the community an event that allows them to engage with their families,” Angel Flores, YMCA of San Angelo associate executive director, said in a press release.

“We are not looking to reinvent the wheel,” YMCA of San Angelo Executive Director, A.J. Moore, said. “We are simply looking to continue the work of Healthy Families of San Angelo, with the hope of offering an event that allows community leaders the opportunity to serve side-by-side for a greater cause.”

The YMCA of San Angelo is still in the transition phase of the event.

“This project is one the Y is excited to take-on. We look forward to working with community leaders to continue the success of the event for all involved, ” Stacy Duffell, event coordinator, said.
