The City of Abilene, Lawn Doctor, My Parks and Recreation and Texas Parks and Wildlife will be hosting Trout Fest 2020 at 7 a.m. Dec. 5-15 at 950 T & P Lane.
Individuals of all ages can enter the fishing contest for free at Cal Young Park by scanning a QR code with their phones and entering their name, age, email and a photo of each catch next to a measuring device.
“Anyone can join which is the fun part about it,” Alyssa Hartley, multimedia specialist, said. “Three different contests that include longest trout, biggest ‘other’ fish, most days fished and four age categories. Those 17 or older need a fishing license to be able to fish in any public body of water in Texas.”
Guests can fish however many days they want between Dec. 5-15, and winners will be announced Dec. 16. If there is a tie, a random winner will be drawn.
“For each category there will be a Trout Fest 2020 winner, and we will have trophies for the social #GottaCatchATrout,” Hartley said. “A backpack, tackle boxes, hooks, fishing pole, bate will be included in the prizes.”
For participants who do not catch a fish, it is encouraged to scan the QR code, and fill out the information on the website so the judges will know you went out to fish that day.
“We made some arrangements for COVID-friendly and keeping everyone's safety first,” Hartley said. “If people are social distancing, they can just follow the rules with the CDC guidelines, and it’ll be easy to find a spot to not get close to other people who also need to social distance with the fishing hooks.”
There will be a limited amount of loaner tackle available for the event. To reserve a pole, call 325-692-0921 to arrange a pickup time.
