For this Moment of Zen, we take you around the town of Big Lake to show you the sites of the Permian Basin's birthplace.

BIG LAKE, Texas — Big Lake, Texas, county seat of Reagan County was named after having the largest natural spring-fed lakes in the state, which is now completely dry. A little history lesson about Reagan County, it is considered the "Birthplace of the Permian Basin" because the first commercial producing oil well in the Permian Basin, Santa Rita No. 1 (located 10 miles outside of town) struck oil on May 28, 1923. This is a two part series which, more information will be provided. Enjoy!
