SAN ANGELO, Texas — FOX West Texas is teaming up with the San Angelo Standard-Times and Meals For The Elderly to purchase and distribute NOAA weather radios for residents unable to receive alerts by any other means.

The two media companies will kick off the drive by purchasing $250 worth of NOAA weather radios a piece.

"We were talking about this story in the newsroom and a light bulb went off." Standard-Times News Director, Jen Guadarrama, said. "We realized this was a perfect opportunity to help our elders in the community, who regardless of what happens with the siren situation, would benefit from having a weather radio."

"Updating our communities is what we do. Weather happens quick and everyone should have the opportunity to be alerted when it does. FOX West Texas News Director, Cody Broadway, said. "This is a great opportunity for the community to come together during severe weather season."

Donations will be accepted by both the Standard-Times and FOX West Texas.

To contribute money to purchase radios, email News@GoSanAngelo.com.

To donate a NOAA radio, drop it off at the FOX West Texas studio, 5 S. Chadbourne St., between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Donations will be collected through June 7.
