Military spouse takes time to celebrate and thank husband

Tifanie and Robert Brannon have been married for 10 years.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — Military Spouse Appreciation Day is celebrated annually and aimed to recognize those who support and sacrifice for those who are serving their country.

Tifanie Brannon has been married to Staff Sgt. Robert Brannon for 10 years. Robert has served in the military since 2012.

Tifanie said being a military spouse has its ups-and-downs. However, this year the couple is celebrating their journey.

“We’re kind of just really celebrating life," she said. “We got married on a piece of paper. we never had a really big wedding."

The couple are parents of a 9-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter.

“He is a firefighter generally, but is an instructor here at Goodfellow training base. So, he is an instructor for firefighters at the fire academy," Tifanie said.

She said Robert serving his country is a rewarding job for him.

“He likes to be able to kind of shape the next generation, you know?”

She said being married to someone in the military has its challenges and comes in waves. However, she hopes more and more women shed light to their stories.

“Just being a military spouse I think one of the challenges is having a career and pretty much just being thrown into a whole new world. I think it’s important that trying to show a positive outlook or trying to help people’s mindset when it comes to employment for military spouses," Tifanie said.

Over the weekend, the couple and their children will celebrate both Mother's Day and Military Spouse Appreciation Day as a family.
