SAN ANGELO, Texas — Ashley and Stefan Hambright, owners of Hambright Real Estate Team, knew they wanted to do more in the realty business than just sell houses.
"I grew up in law enforcement, I have so many friends that are teachers and nurses. I was always looking for a way to give back like they give. Of course, we sell houses, but there was always something that we felt we could do more," Ashley Hambright said.
That's when Ashley, Stefan and mortgage loan originator Jennifer Gentry found "Homes for Heroes," a nationwide organization formed after the 9/11 terrorist attacks as a way to help firefighters, EMS, law enforcement, military (active, reservists and veterans), healthcare professionals and teachers for all they do.
"If you're buying, you get $500 off of your lender fees, and you get a check from Home to Heroes after closing on a home. If you're selling, you get reduced fees on your real estate service fees so you can see those rewards right away. If you're refinancing, you get $500 off of your refinancing fees," Gentry said.
Since 2009, Homes for Heroes Inc. has helped more than 33,000 heroes save more than $55 million on their real estate transactions, sold more than $4 billion in real estate to heroes, and actively partnered with more than 3,000 real estate and mortgage professionals.
"A lot of times those heroes are the exact same people that don't really get the recognition they deserve. We really like to point out that they definitely deserve the recognition."
An informational event will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 4 at the San Angelo Visitor Center. For more information on the Homes for Heroes program, visit homesforheroes.com.
