SAN ANGELO, Texas — Health authorities said men ages ages 20-30 should get screened to prevent health issues down the road. These authorities continue to educate men throughout the community, especially during Men's Health Month in June.
Throughout the month, health officials raise awareness by conducting presentations and education events with people.
Aaron Milan with Bethel United Methodist Church has been advocating for men's health and putting on events like the men's health breakfast for some years now. He said men must maintain their health at all times.
"Right now, being men's health, we just want to reach out. You know, whatever they're not sure of. We're just used to working and eating what's on the go. Sometimes we don't realize that a combination of a lack of rest and what you consume can hurt you," Milan said.
Norma Lee, the director of outreach at La Esperanza Clinic, said a lot of prevention is critical in a man's health.
"There are certain times where certain screenings are most valuable, which is between ages 20 - 39. When a certain kind of screening in males. Ages 40 - 50 and then 50 on up," Lee said.
From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 12, the Public Housing Authority and La Esperanza Clinic will be hosting a men's health information session at 420 East 28th St. Event organizers will also discuss when men should be screened for prostate and breast cancer.
There is a men's health breakfast and presentation held from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. Saturday, June 19, at Bethel United Methodist Church, 115 West Avenue O.
