No injuries reported in single-vehicle crash Sunday afternoon

The driver was pulled out of the water by good samaritans and was brought onshore uninjured.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — San Angelo Police Department units were dispatched at approximately 5:20 p.m. Sunday to the intersection of S. Randolph Street and Veterans Memorial Drive for a report of a vehicle in the river.

According to SAPD Sgt. Patrick Garrett, the driver was a 27-year-old Hispanic male who was pulled out of the water by good samaritans and brought onshore uninjured.

The driver was subsequently arrested for driving while intoxicated. He refused medical treatment at the scene.

Garrett said, two officers went in the water to search the vehicle for additional occupants and did not find any additional occupants.

The lake unit responded and conducted sonar around the vehicle to make sure there were no other occupants in the vehicle that had not surfaced. 

The vehicle was dragged out of the river officers were able to confirm there were no other occupants in the vehicle. 

Garrett also said sonar was used in the area once the car was out to make sure no other bodies were in the river.
