Amazon back up after morning outage

The online shopping service was apparently down for people trying to check out.

HOUSTON — Thousands of customers reported issues with checkout on the Amazon shopping website Wednesday morning.

No, it wasn’t just you.

Thousands of e-commerce shoppers received a message when trying to check out. It read, “sorry we’re experiencing unusually heavy traffic. Please try again in a few seconds.”

But seconds dragged on for about an hour for some customers.

As of 8:30 a.m., more than 9,000 users reported issues according to the site that tracks outages, DownDetectors. The complaints peaked at more than 14,000 complaints by 9 a.m. but most were believed to be from issues earlier in the morning.

Amazon sent KHOU this response when we asked what happened.

“We’re sorry that some customers may have temporarily experienced issues while shopping. We have resolved the issue, and everything is now running smoothly.”
