ATLANTA — Dozens of employees will be out of a job near the holidays as Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. is ending live programming on HLN, according to reports.

CNN Business reported that the company had informed layoffs started, citing a memo sent to employees. Chris Licht, who was made chief executive of CNN over the summer, said the company would notify impacted employees Thursday.

Bloomberg reports that HLN, known initially as Headline News, will simulcast CNN's morning show in place of its current programming on that daypart. The cable network was known for "Morning Express with Robin Meade," with a host that had been with the network for years. The move is another cost-cutting effort made by the company after its merger.

CNN's former parent company, WarnerMedia, merged with Discovery earlier this year. The merger was completed in April when CNN announced it was shutting down its short-lived streaming service CNN+ merely a month after it launched.
